I decided to try to make a 4x4 drum sampler and synthesizer inspired by MothSynth. Its built around an esp32 s2 mini and a max98537 amplifier. I'll use some kailh choc silver switches leftover from a split keyboard build instead of mini push buttons. To hold the switches in place, I modeled a simple front plate that the keyswitches will click into.
I have previous experience with parametric cad, mostly inventor for school, but since I'm on linux, I needed an alternative. I chose freecad, since it seemed the most modern. Its task window popup is a lot different, and it's annoying that you need to give each dimension a name to use it in an expression instead of referencing it by number, but the rest of the tools are very similar.
The next step is to get the dimensions of the pcb modules and create mounting points for those, and 3d print a test piece to make sure the switches fit. I thought about adding some sort of screen to the synth, but I decided to make this as simple as possible. I want to be able to have multiple simple synths rather than one that does everything, so in the future I can build up a sort of synth-pedalboard combo.
